Towards the end of last year I was invited along with a number of others, to take part in the traditional ‘look back, looking forward’ review of the year.
Full details of what those responding replied are in the January issue of Newslink due to be delivered to MSA members in the next few days.
These are the questions and my responses.
1) Do you think the Standards Check has been a success – and depending on your answer, why?
Yes because it allows ADIs to give a “normal” lesson.
2) What was your biggest disappointment in 2014 in relation to driver training/testing?
Another year with no sign of a green paper or any other regulatory response from government to improve the safety of new drivers.
3) What one thing do you want to see the DVSA introduce in 2015?
Anything – although that might be tempting fate, they could introduce a fee increase.
4) Do you think the profession is in a better shape today than 10 years ago?
No there are still to many ADIs for the number of learners and no help from the regulator.
5) Do you think ADIs can be positive about the future?
Yes of course we all need to be positive otherwise we will sink into a mire of gloom, doom and despondency. No one wants to learn to drive with a misery.
6) What impact do you think technology will have on your job in the next 5-10 years? I’m not sure – five years ago I could not have predicted what is happening now.
7) If you were the Secretary of State for Transport, what one change would you bring in tomorrow that would improve road safety? A rerquirement for driving test candidates to have a certificate of test readiness signed by an ADI.
8) What was your highlight (non ADI) of 2014?
Finding out a friends malignant tumour had been successfully removed by key hole surgery and he was able to go back to work three weeks after the operation.
9) What’s your Christmas wish (non ADI) for 2015?
I’d rather like a Jaguar, say an XJR SWB if anyone has £90K to spare.
10) And what’s your New Year resolution (non ADI)?
Be nicer to everyone.
