Last week I had the pleasure of a quick visit to Budapest in Hungary to help facilitate a meeting between the association for Hungarian driving instructors & schools and the Hungarian National Transport Authority.
For various reasons communications between the driving schools and instructors and the examining body broke down some time ago and there had not been a meaningful meeting between the two sides for about seven years.
As EFA President I was asked to assist in building bridges between the two sides and a very cordial meeting was held between the participants shown in the photograph.
A wide range of subjects were discussed including EFAs recent work with CIECA on driving school standards. Worries about the aging of the workforce, shared by both sides, were considered. Also discussed a number of matters of concern to instructors and schools including the occasional random stopping of driving school cars by the police who check documents and then breathalyse the instructor. Something that the public might feel suggested the driving school stopped had committed some offence.
All felt the meeting had been successful and it was agreed that now the ice had been broken it was hoped by both sides that more meetings would take place in the future.
I would like to thank my Hungarian colleagues for their very kind hospitality, although only a fleeting visit Budapest it is clearly a beautiful city and I hope to return one day with a bit more time to explore.
