It was my intention to take a break from Blogging during July and August but I did not intend to start the break until I had posted this entry. Unfortunately I clicked the save draft button rather than the publish button so this blog has been languishing in the ether for some time my apologies.
At the start of July I was privilege to accompany Dr. Stefan Ebner, Managing Director of WKO the Austrian association for driving schools and a party of around thirty WKO members on a trip around a number of the offices connected to the EU in Brusells.
Our first call was at European Parliament where we greeted by Thomas Thaler office manager for MEP Rübig who gave us a guided tour and gave us an idea of how the parliament works. We then had lunch with his boss MEP Paul Rübig
We moved on to a meeting with a number of European representatives some of whome gave presentations included in the discussions were Barbara Van Liedekerke, EU Commission, DG Internal Market; Vice-Pres René Claesen CIECA; Markus Stock from the EU office of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber and as President (EFA I also took part and gave a short presentation.
Meetings were also held with Andreas Lernhart from the Council of the European Union; Dr. Ronald Rödl, MA, who is from the Styria region in Austria, Michaela Kauer, who is the Liaison Office of the City of Vienna for the EU and we met with Julia Kremer, European Commission, DG Mobility and Transport.
Although most of the discussions were held in German my understanding of which is very limited I had a fascinating time and met some very interesting driver trainers and driving school proprietors.
